Now, after setting up the DNS settings in your domain control panel, and registering your new URL with Blogger (see this post for full information), all you have to do is go to Settings>Publishing in your Blogger dashboard, and tick the box which is highlighted on the image below:

This setting ensures a flawless redirection from your non-WWW to your WWW blog URL, and most importantly, you will lose no visitors who accidentally key in your blog’s URL without the WWW prefix.

If you currently make use of any free hosting provided by your domain agent, be sure that this redirection will not affect any existing files which are hosted in the root folder of your hosting account, as this redirection may make them inaccessible to you. For this reason, I won’t be using this new feature myself, though I am very happy that Blogger have finally resolved this issue for bloggers who have little experience in setting up domains.

Now all we need is for Blogger to actually set up the custom domain for us, without the need to do this ourselves in the DNS settings…

For the ‘Rounder’ template I have used there is a piece of script in the CCS Style Section that read like this:

If you have already added a Twitter widget to your blog, you can easily customize the appearance of this widget using some simple CSS techniques.

The widget code for your Twitter badge will most likely appear like this:

As you can see from the comments I added in red, you can add inline CSS styling to your widget code, in order to add borders, background color or even an easily recognizable icon.

Here are some examples of the code you can add in this section:

style=”border: 3px solid #cccccc; padding: 5px;” <--This will add a wide grey border around the widget with some padding to ensure the text doesn't get too close to the edges.

style="background: #ffcc00;" <-- This will add a bright yellow background to the widget, ensuring this contrasts with other elements in the page.

style="background: url(http://imagehost.com/youricon.jpg) top left no-repeat; padding-left: 50px;" <--This will add an icon as a background image to your widget. The padding declaration ensures the text does not overlap the icon (this is the solution I use to feature the blue bird in my Twitter icon in the header section).

Add a Twitter Widget using this Widget Installer

For those of you who would prefer a simple method of adding a stylized Twitter widget to your Blogger powered blog, here is a widget installer which will add a widget with an easily recognizable “Twitterific” icon.
The colors and fonts of this widget will blend with other elements of your blog, while the Twitterific icon will be easily recognized and help your readers associate this widget with Twitter.

To add this widget to your blog, simply fill in the details in the form below. Your Twitter username is the one which you have chosen to represent you on Twitter. For example, my username us “amandafazani” and my Twitter URL is http://twitter.com/amandafazani. Add this username into the appropriate box, then change the title and number of tweets to display as suited to your needs.

As yet, I haven’t integrated the code into a widget installer, but if you would like to use this widget in your own blog, simply copy and paste the code below into a Javascript/HTML element. For those using classic Blogger templates, you can paste the code where you would like it to appear in your blog’s template:

Here are some tips to boost comments on your blog:

1. Killer content:

Complete and well written posts always have an edge over others and are a hit among blog readers. Always remember “Content is King”, after all blogging is about sharing information and knowledge. This means that you should add value to each and every post. Make sure the posts are descriptive and try to cover each and every aspect of topic you are writing on.
Resourceful articles like lists and roundups can get you lot of comments.

2. Debate

Start Debates like Tweetmeme vs Twittley.
You should choose topics which are quite popular or are in the news and are quite debatable.
In a debate there are readers supporting one of the two sides. And they try to comment on your blog to support their side. Some debates may be never ending and you might see a continuous surge in the number of comments you get.

3. Be Controversial

Being controversial can get you a horde of comments. You can say something like “bloggers are freaks!”, anything view which different from the view of the masses. I personally don’t use this technique, but this technique is a comment attractor. The only negative point about this type of post that you might get a lot of rude comments from readers.

4. Bring Traffic

There are many posts that are really good but they don’t get the required attention or exposure and that is why they don’t get enough comments. Boost traffic to your blog byfollowing these simple tips.

5. Reward Commentators

One way very easy way to get commentators on the block is by rewarding them.

There are many ways one can reward their commentators, i would like to list a few:

a. Commentluv :
Commentluv is a relatively new concept where commentators can add a link to one of the recent blog posts. The advantage of commentluv is that it can become a good traffic source for commentators. And thus, it helps bloggers who use commentluv get more comments than bloggers who don’t.

b. Dofollow Movement:
Bloggers are always looking for ways to increase backlinks so that they get a higher search engine ranking and Page Rank. You can make your blog Dofollow by removing the nofollow tag/attribute from your comments and rewarding the commentators with a free backlink.

c. Commenting Contests
This is one of the easiest ways. Just start a commenting contest. Award the the top or the best commentators with prizes such as cash or vouchers.
It is a super easy method to increase comments.

5. News

Post about the latest news and be the first one to do it. Bloggers who posted about “Remembering Michael Jackson” got a surge of reactions from his fans.

6. Add Social Media Connect

Social media is a rage nowadays. Each and every one is using social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.
Adding Facebook and Twitter connect (These services allow users to login directly through their social media accounts) to blogs can tremendously increase comments. You can also use Alternative Commenting Systems such as Js-Kit. These commenting systems, have built in options to login via various social media accounts.

These methods will surely help you gain comments on your blog.

1. Login to your Entrecard account.

3. Then you will see a text Top Entrecard Droppers and you will see a feed icon just next to it. Copy the link of the feed.
